So four years ago, I discovered a world much different than the one I knew and the one I live. Four years ago, I discovered a more vibrant definition of Need. One that identifies the family who works, yet goes without food for a day or 2. A need that Identifies a child who is sent to work in the fields, on the farm, or in the brothels to simply survive and where education is a privileged for the few not a requirement of the masses. It is in these people, this culture that I have found Life.
Four years ago, my life changed. I left my job at MTV, I moved away from family and friends in California to do the thing that I knew I couldn’t live a day without thinking about. So, today I live in Salt Lake City working in development for Calcutta Mercy Ministries, an organization that works with a Holistic Model intended to provide the basics of healthcare, nutrition, and education to the people of India. Today, Calcutta Mercy Ministries has a 7 story, 31 multi-specialty unit Hospital [Mercy Hospital] and 17 rural village medical clinics that treat 100,000 people a year; people who would otherwise go without health services. Our over 100 schools and our Project Rhino Online Education Program [developed in the rural villages where our medical services are administered] provide free education and meals to thousands of children annually. At our various feeding lines, 20,000 people are fed each day.
Everyday a life is changed, made better and given the means to look beyond Need in order to dream and reach for a destiny of their own. This November and December, I travel to India to assist in the development of our Project Rhino Online Education system. And today and for the entirety of my trip, I request your support.
